Hi, I'm Kathrin!
I am a freelance photographer and photography assistant based in London.
Fashion photography is my passion, but I do not limit my photography to it and enrich
my fashion imagery with skills I have gained whilst working on portrait, food/still life
and interior photography.
I grew up in Bochum, a city in Western Germany. After focusing on my two passions (Biology
and Art) in school, I decided to extend my scientific knowledge and graduated with a B.Sc degree
in Biochemistry at Ruhr-University Bochum in 2013.
During my studies it became clear to me that pursuing a science related career was not going to
fulfil me. Soon after and much to my delight I discovered the medium of photography and
instantly fell in love with it as it combined both my technical and artistic interests perfectly.
After graduation I completed a five-month internship at a portrait photography studio named
'Intuitive Fotografie' in Cologne where I was responsible for shoot preparations, social media,
post-production, and also accounting. Getting to know the business side of a studio helped me to
improve my organisational skills and I enjoyed working in a team and the communication with
clients very much.
In 2017, I graduated with a BA degree in Photography from the London College of
Communication, part of the University of the Arts London.
After graduation I pursued a commercial photographic role and jumped straight into a full-time assisting role for e-commerce and fashion photographer, Bernhard Deckert. Concurrently I also started working for the restaurant, Lahpet, creating content, and as a photographer for the London walking tours company, Pick-a-Pic.
I use my limited remaining time to regularly organise photoshoots to extend my portfolio, to network and to apply my knowledge about photographic lighting.
I thrive on working as part of a creative team and strive to realise my concepts and ideas
through self-directed shootings.
Mainly working within people and fashion photography, I like to create commercially appealing
imagery and experiment with a variety of unusual materials and surfaces to achieve unusual
effects and convey my creativity.
